Mad in Finland was first published in April 1970
by Kustannus Oy Williams as Suomalainen MAD (Finnish MAD). It lived from January 4, 1970 to January 11, 1972. Publishing ceased in 1972 because of poor success, and only 30 issues of this first edition of the Finnish MADs were published.
1970 - 9 issues, 1971 - 12 issues, 1972 - 9 issues.
In the 4th quarter of 1982, a publishing company called Semic began publishing MAD again, now as Suomen MAD (Finland's MAD), and remains that way today. M.
Tulosmaa has been the head of staff has been all this time. 1982 only 1 issue
was released. 1983 - 1986 6 issues per year (total 24) , 1987 - 1994 8
issues per year (total 64) and 1995 - now , 12 issues per year (total 72
to 12/2000). The 200th Finnish MAD featured stuff along the years by Finnish artists.
The first Finnish Mad special appeared in 1984, and was called Kino-MAD. Eight new paperback books has been released. Seven of them are by Don Martin and one
by Sergio Aragones. 2 paperback books was released in 1971 (Typical MAD and Don Martin Cooks A Soup) .
The final edition of the Finnish MAD was pretty much a translation of the US version. Because of economic problems, they
were not buying material from Finnish artists anymore. The publisher was
"Egmont
Kustannus". With issue #245, regular issues of the Finnish Mad were
no longer published. They will possibly release a special of two in the
future. To reach the Finnish Mad by mail write
